World Smile Day is a tradition that is celebrated on the first Friday of October every year. Started by the creator of the smiley face, World Smile Day is a fun day that is celebrated internationally. In honor of World Smile Day, a day in which we honor smiles and serve others, let’s discuss ways to enhance your smile.
Ways To Enhance Your Smile
Smiles are a wonderful way to connect with others, improve your mood, and relieve stress. Unfortunately, some people do not feel completely confident in their smiles. Continue reading to learn more about how to enhance your smile.
1) Go to the Dentist
The first tip to help improve your smile is to go to the dentist. Unfortunately, there is a large percentage of Americans who do not go to the dentist regularly enough. There are several reasons for this including lack of proper dental insurance, fear of the dentist, or simple forgetfulness. However, going to the dentist is important. Not only for your smile, but for your overall oral health. There are many resources available to you to help you pay for dental costs and to help you overcome dental phobias. Make sure to mark your calendar when you have an appointment and respond to messages sent by your dentist regarding appointments.
2) Exercise And Drink Water
You will most likely not be surprised to hear that exercise is good for your oral health. Exercise reduces inflammation and increases endorphins which are pain killing chemicals in our brains. Combined with good oral health practices, exercise is a great way to improve and maintain your smile. Also it is recommended to wear protective mouth guards if you are doing certain activities for your exercise including basketball, soccer, football, gymnastics, snowboarding, etc.
Drinking water is also a great way to keep your teeth in tip top shape. Drinking water after eating helps remove food particles which helps prevent tooth decay. Drinking water also helps prevent dry mouth which is a condition caused by a lack of saliva. Dry mouth is uncomfortable and can have many symptoms including bad breath and difficulty chewing and speaking. Anyway, drinking water is good for your oral health and is a great way to enhance your smile.
3) Limit Certain Drinks And Stop Smoking
Limiting wine, soft drinks, sports drinks, coffee and tea is a great way to improve your smile. Removing drinks with a lot of sugar protects your teeth from cavities and tooth decay. Choosing to limit sugary drinks also helps with overall health and weight loss. Wine, coffee and tea can cause stains to your teeth. Especially red wine and black coffee and tea cause stains.
Another good way to protect your teeth is to stop smoking. There are many health benefits to quitting smoking but oral health is a big reason. Smoking can cause tooth decay and makes people much more susceptible to developing gum disease and periodontitis. These diseases can cause teeth to fall out. To avoid losing teeth and maintaining your smile, stopping smoking might be a good thing to consider.
4) Try Whitening or Veneers
Whitening is another great way to enhance your smile. Whitening removes stains from your teeth and makes them look, well, whiter! It is advisable to get whitening done professionally at the dentist, but there are some at-home whitening procedures that may also do the trick. Make sure to speak with your dentist about these options so that you do not choose a whitening technique that could damage your teeth.
Veneers are a cosmetic dental procedure that causes your teeth to look perfect. Veneers are porcelain implants that are bonded to the front of your teeth. They can help cover stains, close gaps and straighten the teeth.
